I’m definitely more of a summer girl, there’s just no denying it. But there’s something that happens around this time of year when I begin to get a little excited as we anticipate the cooler months. I love seeing the leaves slowly change colour and if you live in Cape Town and have witnessed one of our regions worst droughts over the last 3 years, see our grass slowly restored back to its former green glory!

But more than that I love that I get to pull my long knitted jerseys out from the top shelf. I love the layering of clothing that starts to happen as we enter April and May and that by June, it’s full steam ahead with chunky jerseys and winter coats, complete with ankle boots and thick tights. I love that feeling of walking the city streets in the icy cold and finding cover and comfort in one of the many trendy little coffee shops that populate the sidewalk. I can sit in a widow booth for hours and watch all the trendily-dressed people walk by and feel inspired to wear beautiful clothes in a more creative way. Cape Town you folk are a pretty hip bunch I’ll have you know!

Every year I tell myself I’m going to be a little bit more adventurous with my wardrobe and almost every year I succumb to the Plain Jane in me, opting for more subtle tones and styles. My excuse being that I prefer to shop for things that won’t date or that aren’t subject to a certain dress code. I think I’ve managed to fall a little bit too far into the boring category though and I’m feeling freshly inspired to turn things up a notch this season. So here are a few AW19 looks (some are slightly older but are quite timeless) I’m swooning over and more importantly my top 10 fashion finds to help you get the look.

I think it’s important to remember that catwalk fashion and street/everyday fashion are two very different things and also that just because something is trending, it certainly doesn’t in away mean it’s going to 1. look good on you or 2. Suite your personal sense of style.  you need to do what feels right for you and incorporate things that suite your personality and body shape, don’t just follow a trend because its a trend. To be honest there are some trends that I feel need to be burned to the ground before the rest of the world catch on to it too quickly. For example, this look below. Just because it’s Vogue and straight off the runway does not give every one the liberty of dressing like freak. Unless that’s your thing. Then by all means don’t let me stop you!

Some looks I love ….

⇑ Lots of layering and different textures going on here… Perfect to be worn with flat boots, high boots or sneakers. Thick scarves, torn jeans, oversized jerseys and tweed jackets. Whats not to love?

I’ve always loved this look and it’s still going to be pretty hot this season I reckon. I realise white may not be the most practical colour as a mom of three but I think for those work meetings, dinners out with the girls or weekends away with the hubs, these are the perfect combos that are stylish yet oh so comfortable.

⇑ Don’t you just LOVE these gorgeous earthy tones that can be mixed and matched with warmer and brighter colours for more dramatic look? I would love to invest in a beautiful beige trench coat like this. It’s super versatile and can be dressed up or down, depending on your mood or occasion.

⇑ For a more casual look… hoodies, oversized jerseys, waterfall cardies and a fitted leather jacket. I already have a great leather jacket from Old Khaki that I paid a small fortune for me but trust me ladies, if there is one thing I think you need to invest in in terms of clothing, it’s a great pair of jeans and good quality leather jacket. I love that you can wear a leather jacket with jeans, skirts, and even dresses. They are perfect for layering in winter time or just for an extra layer on warmer nights. I love this look with sneakers and the more loafer style pull-on featured here. You can find a very similar pair over at Saint & Summer…. also in a leopard print. (Featured below)

More casual looks I love….

For a more girly/feminine look that still has the funk! A cute skirt!

These are all quite different looks, I love the middle one because it’s has a little boho touch to it. I love the one on the right because it’s a bit more chic, especially with the leather jacket and I love the one on the left  because well, LEOPARD PRINT! Need I say more?

So now that I’ve rounded up my favourite looks I thought I would try and see who is stocking these sorts of items and a get a good idea of what our options are in terms of variety, style and price.
