We love eating good food in our home. It’s often the only time we all have together during the week as we sit around the table and talk about our day. Or laugh at one of dad’s many funny jokes, depending what mood he’s in. But either way, food and mealtimes have become dedicated family time which usually starts with cooking up a storm over a glass of red wine. (Or two!) It helps that our kids are quite adventurous eaters for the most part and that even Hunter (almost two!) is at the age now where she eats just about anything. Guys she’s a little glutton if truth be told!

I love that services like Day To Day have made cooking yummy, healthy meals during the week easy for busy parents like us, providing all you need for delicious and flavour- packed meals for those nights of the week where life can be a little chaotic. It really inspires us to try to new things and provides my family with some exciting variety too, instead of resorting to the usual house staples. I mean we all love a spag bol from time to time, but I think my kids will tell you there was spaghetti coming out of their ears at one point 🙂

Day To Day is food delivery service which offers you pre-packed ingredients, all perfectly measured out for you. So all you need to do is start cooking up a storm with zero meal-planning and most importantly no shopping!! With new and exciting meals on the menu every week, it offers people an exciting variety of delicious meals delivered to your door to cook yourself.

We were recently sent a box to try for the second time and we really enjoyed the variety. I have to be honest though and say that I found the Express box quite carb heavy and in my personal preference prefer a lower carb based meal plan. But it suited us quite well, with our training for Two Oceans at an all time high, meaning those extra carbs were really put to good use! And what’s good to know is that they do offer a Carb Conscious box which, is definitely one I’m keen to try next. Our last Family box also ticked all the right boxes for us in terms of it’s offerings and the Fitness box I find super intriguing!

For all the mamas reading this with families to feed, you may be happy to note that the Family Box has been rated the best value for money of all the foodie box services in the country. While some services have had some price increases of late, Day To Day have managed to keep their prices down in their efforts to make it as affordable as possible. You can feed a family of four (This feeds our family of five with kids portions divided up) for four nights a week for R950! Now that’s value!!

This is what our Express box was made up of:

MEAL A : TURKISH CHICKEN AND ORANGE SALAD

This wasn’t my favourite in the box but I think it might have just been the mood I was in. I did like that was really fresh and different to anything we would have ordinarily prepared in our kitchen. The flavours were great, I may have used slightly less red onion, although most people would probably not agree with me. Our guests loved it, they even asked for the recipe the following day! Really tummy for these in between nights where the nights are getting cooler but don’t always call for heavy hot food.

MEAL B : HERB BUTTER PORK WITH HEALTHIER POT SALAD

I loved this so much!! Flavours were spot on and any pork fan will know how well goes with potato salad. it got a big thumbs up from the hubs too and the kids couldn’t get enough of the pork and potatoes! A real winner in my books!

MEAL C : Brown Onion Burgers

Guys these were so scrumptious. They were served with potato wedges but I swiped the wedges for salad, which I think lowers the carb content slightly. But hey, for those of you who believe a burger isn’t a burger without chips, then this is certainly for you! The sauce was incredible, made with stock, onions, cream and cheese which just took the already delicious patty to a whole new level of yumminess! And let me not forget to mention that the boys ate their entire burgers, which says a lot because they were MASSIVE!

MEAL D: PESTO CHICKEN AND TOMATO SALAD

The was probably the husband’s favourite and was really more like a pasta than a salad. Packed with flavour and yummy fresh ingredients, we enjoyed every bite. I particularly enjoyed the smoked chicken as apposed to normal chicken for a change. It gave the pasta an almost smokey bacon flavour and went so well with the sundered tomatoes.

So there you have moms! A run down of everything we received in our Express box last week. The Family box may be more centred around kids, but in my mind this was pretty kid friendly as well, so don’t be scared to venture in to see what the other boxes include. You may be surprised to discover more appealing meals in one of the others!
