Guys can you believe I’m about to have a baby in less than 2 weeks? Well, actually – if these “mild” contractions I’m already experiencing and my stint in hospital are anything to go by, it could mean she will be here earlier than expected! (I’m just praying I don’t end up having to be induced after all this!)

Our little scare a couple of weeks ago served as a real reminder of the things I still needed to do before she arrives and so, like most moms at 36 weeks (for the third time!!) I got a bee in my bonnet and the second I was discharged from hospital, hit the floor of Cavendish Square running (or waddling for a better word!) I realised that while I had purchased a few typically girly things since we found out what we we expecting, we didn’t have ANYTHING remotely practical for her from a clothing or toiletries perspective. EEEK!

So I was that crazy expectant mom cruising the aisles of Clicks, emptying the shelves of the all the baby products I’ve come to trust over the years. The very first thing in my basket was the Johnson’s & Johnson’s Top to toe wash and Baby Shampoo – a smell I have come to love and one that brings with it such a sense of nostalgia of when my boys were babies. The smell just takes me straight back to the newborn days of perfectly soft newborn skin.

Now of course there’s a much larger role that comes into to play than merely the heavenly fragrance of J&J shampoo and 2 in 1 wash – I mean what mother would I be if I went on scent alone? I love J&J that much more because they have taken time to understand in great depth the difference between baby and adult skin and they recognised the need to develop gentle products specially formulated for babies. They know that a baby’s skin needs extra moisture and so they have developed something that delivers 24-hour hydration – so important for fresh out-the-oven babies especially!!

JOHNSON’S genuinely understands baby skin. With over 120 years of experience, their expertise is acknowledged by health care professionals and moms world-wide.

It’s no surprise that they are extremely clued up when it comes to the fact that babies skin needs more moisture. Here’s why :

Looking at your baby’s skin differently:

A baby’s skin feels so soft doesn’t it? So soft in fact that many of us don’t realise just how delicate it is and just how important it is to take extra care of it! This makes sense when you think about the fact that your baby’s skin barrier is the first line of defence against the outside world and that because it is still developing, it needs special care for at least the first 2 years of life.

Baby skin is about 30% thinner than an adult’s skin and is more permeable, which means that substances that come in to contact with it are absorbed more easily. So because it loses moisture up to 5 x faster than an adult’s and has fewer natural oils, it’s is prone to dryness and needs extra hydration to keep it beautifully soft and healthy. And I don’t know about you but I’m all for keeping my little one’s skin deliciously soft!

What lies behind Johnson’s expertise?

Much of what is known about baby skin and skin care is due to Johnson’s, who have sponsored nearly 90% of peer-reviewed scientific literature on the subject!

It feels so great knowing I can rest assured with the knowledge that my baby’s skin will be in such good hands from the moment she enters the world. The fact that Johnson’s are on top of their game means I don’t have to worry, but instead focus on enjoying my baby knowing I’m giving her the very best.

I, together with the lovely folk over at Johnson’s are giving away two hampers to the value of R400 filled with a selection of all these fabulous products.  So here’s what you have to do to get your hands on one!!
