If you follow me on Instagram you would have seen my little family and I venturing through the Groot Constantia vineyards a few weeks ago making our way to the Taste at Simons market. We had no idea what to expect and after enjoying a couple of hours at this beautiful venue, I have to say that it is now, by far our favourite market! I see many more visits in our sun-filled future! (Although saying that, they have a gorgeous fire right in the centre of all the hustle and bustle for the winter months too!)
How Taste At Simon’s stands out from the rest?
We have loads of beautiful and funky markets happening around our city – we certainly are blessed. But in all our years frequenting these markets, Taste At Simon’s comes out tops on the food front. That, combined with the fact that it’s situated in just about the most exquisite and picturesque little valley, makes it a clear winner in my book.
I really love the fact that theres ample room inside too and that although it has a cozy market feel, you not getting bumped into every five seconds or waiting in painfully long queues. What also get a huge thumbs up from me is that they have so much for the kids to enjoy too, the most important one being a Crumbs and Cream stand! Of course we did what any good parent would do and ensured they filled up on proper food first : A scrumptious bacon and egg roll!
What did we feast on?
My Hubs LOVES his food as you probably remember from the time he told me in full detail about what gastronomy is. So trying new food and eating food we don’t normally eat at home is his thing. We enjoyed some beef ramen noodles, pork dumplings as well as some pork risotto balls. As usual we were a bit anti-establishment and decided to feast on some oysters and bubbly at the end rather than in the beginning. But let me tell you, it was the best way to end off our time there.
How did the kids enjoy it?
They LOVED it! Apart form the fact that there was a Crumbs and Cream stand, they loved that while we sat outside drinking and eating, they were able to run themselves into oblivion chasing ducks and playing under the trees. There was also a huge pile of sand that the kids seemed to enjoy playing in. Next time we will be sure to remember our buckets and spades!
