It was Paddington Bear who once said :
“There’s only one thing I love more than a sandwich and a good book, that’s two sandwiches and a good book”
And I think most young kids will agree. There’s just something about opening up a book, whether it be a brand new one where a world of possibility awaits a pair of inquisitive eyes, or a special favourite whose pages are curled and worn from frequent use. There is just something beautiful about the whole experience isn’t there?
And with my seven year-old now learning to read, I realise how important it is for us to keep nurturing his love for books as he begins make sense of words and unwrap this magical world of stories for himself. I love that he is already building simple words to make small sentenses and how soon, all these small sentences are going to make up paragraphs and eventually turn into chapters, which will complete a story.
But I would be naive to think that my children’s love for reading is something that will always happen as naturally as it has in the past. Because let’s face it, when something becomes a compulsory homework obligation, it can quite easliy lose it’s “magic”! Reading is something that we as parents need to nurture and encourage and invest our time into. Something we need to teach and cultivate a love for, everyday! In a time where children would rather play TV Games, sit on an iPad or play with marbles, it can be easy for kids to lose the joy when it comes to reading and the beautiful world of words.
Which is why I love Storytime Club, an amazing subscription service that sends your child age appropriate books every month right to your door.
Storytime Club is a subscription-based book club for children, run by mama, editor and bookworm Liza West. She is passionate about the power and relevance of the written word, and wants to be a part of building your child’s library, a bookshelf bursting with adventures, all aimed at nurturing the natural love of reading that every child is born with.As a mom and a trained journalist, Liza personally chooses each book that your children receive. She understands that they need to be fun and engaging, but also helpful in teaching your children to learn and grow through interaction with the words, images and activities. All you have to do is curl up with them and read!
And one of the best part has to be the look on their faces when they receive their beautifully wrapped parcel containing these carefully selected books. It’s all really part of the excitement and feels a little like someone’s birthday when it arrives!
We were treated to a beautiful section of books for all three of my kids (One month’s subscription which is three books each!!) and I was amazed at just how perfect they were for each age group. I was amazed at the quality of the books too, no duds here!!
Noah loved that his were a little bit more grown-up and with just the right picture to text ratio. There was a little bit more in-depth detail to his stories, which you could see made him feel like a big boy. And seeing him try to read “The Man Whose Mother Was A Pirate” was too precious!
Brody’s book could not have been better suited to him – Gracie Grabbit and the Tiger has the most beautiful illustrations and Dylan the Doctor tells the sweetest tale that had the boys gripped from beginning to end. He also received an interactive sticker book which he just LOVES!!
And Hunter Bear received her first ever books which were just the cutest, most adorable selection yet! We couldn’t have chosen them better ourselves.
Let’s just say reading time has been a whole lot more fun around these parts lately!!
