What I’ve come to realise in my many years of actively trying to live a balanced life is that everybody’s version of balance is different. For the Workaholic it could mean getting home earlier to spend time with the kids or meeting a friend after work for run. For the Gym Nut it could mean taking more chill days on the beach enjoying some down time without obsessing over missing a workout. For the Stay-at-home Mom, it could be getting out the house for a girl’s night or getting her run in every morning before the crazy starts. For the take-out and decadent obsessed Foodie, it could mean learning to eat more salad and fresh produce made in your own kitchen.

Everybody’s version of balance looks different and everybody’s struggle to achieve that balance is different too. What’s important is trying to find the right balance for you so that it becomes part of your lifestyle and leaves you feeling energised, fulfilled and HAPPY!

As a mom who constantly strives to live a full and healthy life, I sometimes struggle to find my personal balance. Sometimes the children have to take priority over my physical exercise, sometimes I’m simply too tired to cook that healthy dinner and opt for a less healthy take-out, sometimes I give in to the cake after a long afternoon with demanding kids and sometimes my dear friends I drink too much wine.

But what I have also learnt is that when the scale is tipped too far on the unhealthy side, everything suffers. If I do drink too much wine or eat too much sugary or slaty food (without long breaks in between), I am left feeling bloated and sluggish. If I get to bed too late watching series, I’m not as productive as it should be the next day and if I skip too many exercise days I eventually feel lethargic and grumpy. You see as much as life is too short to not indulge from time to time, it’s healthy balanced living that really gets us feeling good about life and ourselves.

I really do try my best to make sure my children are eating relatively well most of the time and I know that what we eat plays such a vital role in finding our personal balance. So I love offering them snacks that are healthy and nutritious and ones that the whole family can enjoy. And boy do my kids go through a lot of snacks!! We have always been fans of the Vital rice cake range and I’ve often used them as lunch box snacks for the boys or afternoon on-the-go nibbles for when we are playing outside or at extra-murals. I love that they are guilt-free and allow us to snack and munch on something yummy knowing they contain nothing but goodness.

Vital Rice Cakes are made with GMO free wholegrain brown rice and are free from added MSG, AZO colourants, tartrazine, aspartame, preservatives and gluten.

The range of rice cakes come in some delectable flavours : Cream cheese and chives, Spicy pepper salsa, Fruit chutney and Salt and pepper. The Fruit chutney have always been my secret favourite. 🙂
