I sometimes sit back and look how much of my life has changed since having kids. I mean, just the yesterday I was sitting in my lounge with my kids dancing and singing to the new Wriggle and Rhyme soundtrack as I soothed my tired baby to sleep. I kept thinking, “Did I see myself here 8 years ago?” The answer is probably not, but the truth is I love my life and all the kiddy activities we have embraced over the years.

And now that we have returned to the baby phase, I’m also having to welcome all these things back into my life again – Hello nursery rhymes and silly actions!! Thankfully there are some wonderful programmes like Wriggle and Rhyme that offer us much in the line of music and movement for kids.

Have you heard about Wriggle and Rhyme? Wriggle and Rhyme is music and movement programme for building young musicians from 6 months to 6 years. The programme, designed for babies and toddlers, was launched in Cape Town 9 years ago. But, the founder of the program, Kirsty Savides’ passion for music began when she was just a pre-schooler herself, and started taking singing and piano lessons. She went on to study percussion too!

Keen to introduce her own children to music while they were still young, she started Wriggle and Rhyme in 2008. The business has since expanded to include a pre-school program, allowing children to enjoy what Wriggle and Rhyme has to offer, from just 6 months of age, all the way up to 6 years old. Why? Because, music has a profound effect on growing brains!

Music ignites all areas of child development and skills for school readiness: intellectual, social and emotional, motor, language, and overall literacy. It helps the body and the mind work together. Exposing children to music during early development helps them learn the sounds and meanings of words. Moving to music helps children build motor skills while allowing them to practise self-expression.  Music also helps to strengthen memory skills.

The lovely Kirsty sent us a their new CD Bush Babies to sample last week and my kids have had so much fun with it. (Yup, Even Noah who is 6!) I kept thinking how wonderful it’s going to be for those long car trips next holiday!

Here’s what Bush Babies is about in nutshell:

“We’re heading on a car trip to the Kruger National Park to enjoy our latest Wriggle and Rhyme musical adventure. We’re hoping to meet the Big 5 animals and learn more about them. Long car journeys can be dull, so we’ll think about games to play, how to share our toys and how to get along with others, especially when we’re feeling hot and bothered!”

Featuring 12 original W&R songs including the popular “Charge like a Rhino” and “Dandy the Lion”, BUSH BABIES is the latest CD release, in a growing range of W&R musical adventures.

Would you like to get your hands on a copy? Kirsty is giving away TEN copies of Bush Babies valued at R100 each!
