I loved every minute of putting together my little girl’s room. I made it my mission to find some new brands to work with and when I came across Baby Roomz I knew I had to involve them in some way! I saw such a lovely selection of furniture and I knew they would be able to custom make something that would be perfect to our vision and style.
This is after all what Mariska Fourie of Baby Roomz prides herself on – offering beautiful custom-made pieces at affordable prices. Although what her and her husband pride themselves on in a bigger way is the fact that they are trying to change lives by helping those less fortunate. Specifically abused and abandoned babies in Safe Houses around our country. ♥ It’s honestly the most beautiful and meaningful way of giving back to the community and I love Mariska’s passion for doing this!
And for those who missed it, Baby Roomz supplied our gorgeous scandi-inspired compactum which is just about the most gorgeous piece of children’s furniture I have ever seen. In fact it’s perfect for her to grow into as she get’s older too!! Remember we are running a competition for one lucky mama to WIN R13500 worth of nursery goodies including a cot from Baby Roomz!! See below for more details.

⇑ How perfect is this compactum in pine with white tops? It’s honestly one of my favourite pieces in my whole house!!! ♥
Today we speak to Mariska about her business and what it means to her to run it successfully and with true meaning. I just LOVE this story so much!!
1. Is this your full time job?
Yes this is my full time job. We manufacture baby and children furniture. We also do makeovers at safehouses for abused and abandoned babies.
2. How and when was your brand born?
My brand was born on the 29th of September 2013 when I lost my little baby halfway through pregnancy due to complications in my pregnancy. My husband fell from a 3.5 storey building shortly after and we just needed to find the positive in life and fight back. We started with doing something in memory of our baby. Shaun, my husband manufactures most furniture. He manufactured his first Baby Roomz cot in a wheelchair with only one hand and leg in use. He recovered fully. 🙂
Our mission today is to help disabled people or people in need and help them find the entrepeneur that God has destined for them to be. Baby Roomz & Special Needs Roomz (Our charity arm)…has loads instore for the future.
3. Was this an overnight success or did you experience many teething problems?
We worked hard and still do. We work 6 days a week, day and night shifts.
We choose to focus on the good and give our best to improve. Would say our biggest teething problem is when clients don’t follow instructions and email us on wrong email addresses or sms orders especially when people contact you any time. Makes it difficult to respond to everyone if you receive high volumes. But we do appreciate the support and are trying to work around it. We are a small team. :)… I was only a mommy and wife trying to make a difference in my own family…did not expect to grow so quick… am very very humbled!!
4. What has been your greatest lesson in the industry?
Give your best. Be honest. More than that you cannot do. If you get a unsatisfied client and you gave your absolute best, it does not make you a bad person. Believe in yourself!!
5. As a momtrepreneur what are your challenges?
My biggest challenge is to put my phone down and put my children first when new clients request info after hours. Customers are important to me and I tend to work all the time. But my oldest daughter is 15 and starting to develop her entrepeneur skills. Special phase! Our children are part of the makeovers at the safehouses … they see a different side of life. It gives us as parents hope when we see our own children developing a caring heart towards abused children. Our focus is to work for Jesus..and it is truly special to see them do the same!
6. What is your dominant theme running through your business?
Clients can design their own look. We manufacture custom-made furniture according to the clients sizes and affordability. To Give ALL moms the opportunity to have a cot, especially mommies going through difficult phases, we offer lay by options. With this mommies can actually plan during pregnancy and pay their furniture off in installments.
Our aim is to try and assist every enquiry. Vintage is definately my favourite.
7. Who is your biggest inspiration?
People who have not had the opportunity to finish school or study further…those who are hardworking and achieving success. Those who don’t use their past to determine their future!! This is my story and I truly believe I can make a difference with my lifestory and experiences.
8.What has been your biggest achievement as a brand?
We did a makeover for Bobby and Karlien Van Jaarsvelds TV Series “In jou Skoene”. We did an entire makeover at the safehouse for 18 abused and abandoned babaies. It was on Channell Via. We also had the opportunity to do furniture for Kurt Darren, Emo Adams & Karlien Van Jaarsveld.
I would say the BIGGGGEEEST one would be to know we supplied so many so abused babies!!!
9. What are your future hopes and dreams for your brand?
To grow this brand internationally. To revamp ALL safehouses in South Africa. 🙂
What an honour it has been to have partnered with such dynamic and inspirational people! True to their generous style, they are offering the most beautiful cot as part of the Nursery Makeover completion.
